The Defensive Powerhouse Shaping the Toronto Sceptres

The Toronto Sceptres are making waves in their second season of the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL), currently sitting in third place with just over a month left until the playoffs. A key contributor to the team’s success is Renata Fast, a standout defenceman known for her speed, versatility, and leadership. Her skill and determination on the ice have been invaluable in helping the Sceptres thrive.

Originally from Burlington, Ontario, Renata developed a passion for sports at a young age, excelling in various sports. She received a scholarship to Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York, where she helped the Clarkson Golden Knights win the 2014 The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) National Championship. In that same year, Renata set the record for the fastest goal in NCAA Tournament history, scoring just 10 seconds into a Frozen Four quarterfinal.

Renata’s success continued with Team Canada. She made her debut on the Under-22 National Women’s Development Team in 2014, and four years later, earned a spot on the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics roster, winning a silver medal. She has since captured three gold medals (2021, 2022, 2024) and two silver (2017, 2023) at the The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Women’s World Championships, as well as a bronze in 2019.

Before joining the Sceptres in 2023, Renata played for the Toronto Furies in the Canadian Women’s Hockey League (CWHL), where she led the team’s defence in points during her rookie season. After the league folded, she played with the Professional Women’s Hockey Players Association (PWHPA), recording five assists in 20 games with Team Adidas during the 2022-23 season. Now with the Sceptres, Renata’s leadership and experience have been invaluable in their drive to secure a playoff spot this season. Renata Fast is a true asset to the Toronto Sceptres, and her achievements both on and off the ice make her a player to watch.
